Murata's net profit surged 43% to 71 billion yen

Due to the increase in demand for AI servers and related orders, Murata Manufacturing, the world's leading multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) manufacturer, has seen a rebound in orders, with net profit soaring 40% last quarter.
 
According to Murata Manufacturing's financial report for the previous quarter (October-December 2024), consolidated revenue grew 2.0% year-on-year to 448 billion yen, and consolidated profit fell slightly by 0.3% to 76 billion yen due to a decline in utilization, and consolidated net profit soared 43.8% to 71 billion yen.

 


 

















In terms of individual departmental situations, Murata's component department (including capacitors and inductors/EMI filters) revenue grew 7.5% to 264.6 billion yen last quarter compared with the same period last year, of which capacitor revenue increased 7.6% to 213.1 billion yen, and inductor/EMI filter revenue increased 6.9% to 51.5 billion yen.
 
Last quarter, Murata's component/module division (including high-frequency/communication modules, energy/power components and functional components) revenue fell 5.4% to 180.1 billion yen, of which high-frequency/communication modules (including high-frequency modules, surface wave filters, connectors, resin multilayer substrates "MetroCirc", etc.) revenue fell 7.7% to 120.9 billion yen, energy/power components (including lithium-ion batteries, power modules) revenue shrank 5.2% to 34.7 billion yen, and functional components (including sensors, etc.) revenue grew 7.7% to 24.5 billion yen.
 
Murata pointed out that the overall order amount received last quarter was 449.3 billion yen, an increase of 7.2% over the same period last year, of which capacitor orders increased 1.7% to 207.2 billion yen.
Murata maintains its 2024 financial forecast unchanged, with consolidated revenue expected to increase by 3.6% year-on-year to 1.7 trillion yen, consolidated operating profit to increase by 39.2% to 300 billion yen, and consolidated net profit to increase by 30.0% to 235 billion yen, with profits (operating profit, net profit) increasing for the first time in three years.
 
Murata Manufacturing President Kiyoshi Nakajima said, "It is estimated that by 2025, the demand for AI servers will grow by more than 100%." Nakajima pointed out that the number of MLCCs installed in AI servers has increased to 8 times that of traditional servers.
